Sphene, also known as titanite, is a very amazing gemstone known for its exceptional brilliance and fire. Its name derives from the Greek word "sphen," meaning wedge, because of its distinct crystal shape. Sphene gemstones show a large range of colors, including shades of green, yellow, brown, even red and orange. One thing it is known for is its high dispersion, which is even greater than diamonds, creating a play of light and color. Due to its softness, sphene is often used in pendants and earrings only and is not recommended for rings.
