Let us introduce you to our stunning tourmaline gemstone collection, showcasing an array of colors and hues, ranging from green to blue, yellow, pink, red rubellites and even red/ green bi-colors as well as rare vivid green chrome tourmalines . There is even jewelry made from slices of tourmaline crystals that are polished on each end, keeping the crystal faces natural on the sides, which are typically called watermelon tourmaline when the outer area is green and inner part is reddish to pink (but can be other colors as well). Tourmaline boasts a remarkable MOHs hardness of 7-7.5, making it a very durable choice for rings, pendants, and earrings with very few worries. This stone belongs to the cyclosilicate mineral class and has a crystal habit often presented as parallel and elongated formations. Tourmalines are formed by hydrothermal activity meaning crystal growth can occur in igneous and metamorphic rock. Most often found in fissures, pockets, cavities, any open space. Tourmaline is believed to be first discovered in the 1500s by conquistadors in Brazil, but it was mistaken for emerald. It was not until the 1800s when scientists recognized them as their own distinct mineral species. It is found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and the United States. Notable sources in Africa include Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Malawi and Congo.
Embrace the stone of October birthdays and enjoy its captivating beauty set in your choice of metals: 14k white and yellow gold, 18k white and yellow gold, and platinum. Cleaning this stone with mild, warm, soapy water is best. Exercise caution if using an ultrasonic cleaner, and avoid steam cleaning.
